Trading tips from z0r:
Something to consider: how much time to you have? This will ultimately answer whether you want to go with resourcing or trading. With resourcing, you can use up a lot of turns very quickly so long as a port is buying resources, and you don't receive a major penalty on half of it (purfying/refining). If you want to make lots of exp as a resourcer, refine or purify. If you don't have much time, just keep refining/puriying right up to 25k and you'll still make decent exp.
If you have a lot of time, trading is the way to go. Especially trading with negative alignment, which gives you acces to narcotics, weapons, and slaves. All of these give good experience and cash. Its even better if there's a port cluster with more than two ports, as in the cube in 26k. The downside of trading? Its time consuming and there can be hours on end where the ports aren't willing to cooperate and you have to compete with other traders at good trading spots. The upside? You can make a lot more exp and cash trading.
The key to leveling quickly is to not get podded often and to find good places to resource/trade. Nebula often make for good places to trade/resource, simply because people won't see you as often and nebula generate ore and fuel. The only thing is, you have to be careful because you won't see a hunter the majority of the time, but that doesn't mean he's not there,

the 'tentative' new plan is as follows:
for thursday we are going to have a raiding op. the current two init raiders have their ships. the remaining zalluns (danny, EA, nargaroth, me) are going to be getting a ship of some sort, based on what ZZT can cook up. these ships will be geared towards the ability to raid level 40 ports and under, while still being able to be refit into a level-50 raider team.
as well, rental and ghost are going to be getting support raiders that will let us hit level 35 ports and under.
now the other problem is the lack of hunter cover. as such, anyone who volunteers can be given a cheap (2.5 billion) ship with which they can escort with. the probable design will be approximately /30 with approximately 210 base init, concussive dampener, and 8x EMP / 10x fusion torpedo. this will let them do some serious damage without risking them too much, and not breaking our budget.
lastly, we'll be needing aura ships. most likely the way we'll be getting these is calling up traders to go buy an aura and show up IS with it.
as for repair crew - we have one possible (obs), and a few others potential. we'll see.
TRY to show up tonight at some point, since ZZT , me , and zero are going to be finalizing the plan.

actually I'd like to appologize as well, I hunted in 23k for a day or two and I think I may have upset a few of you, I was actually intending to hunt kaos people because there were several in 15k...but I kept getting pings in 23k and couldn't help going for the kills...I regretted it afterwards..my intention wasn't to hunt people who weren't my enemy.
I stopped immediately when I was told our alliances were talking about a possible NAP...and I hope my actions haven't caused a potential friendship to be impossible :/

Incomplete history (z0r)
Things settled down for a bit, as the DA that had retreated were slowly hunted down. Their morale had been dampened such that a number of them started to leave. The DA war was considered, for all intensive purposes to be over.
Eventually we secured the funding to build up our level 50 port team (tppw, swarm behemoths) and we built then subsequently raided the ports that they were built at and then headed back home—some of which docked at the planets. Later that night some Renegades were making incursions into Dathkara, killing drones and generally being a nuisance. Solace, Zzt, and I decided to camp the node in expectation that they would wander through sometime. Suddenly the screen was full of Renegade ships (the first thing I saw was Joshua's Dogbert tag and then a pile of red beneath that), and Solace was in a pod while Zzt and I managed to flee back to Asgard (which was one sector to the left of the node).
And so the floodgates were opened. A Renegade raid team (yes, they still raided back then) entered Dathkara, as well as even more Renegade escorts and DA (Geno and the other active DA hunters). Shortly thereafter, they started raiding Wrath of Mars. It was raided, and a level 50 port buster was killed. At about this time we had assembled 6 or so hunters that were about ready to jump the Renegades, when a fleet of STS hunters entered the arena, preventing us from feasibly jumping any raid. Then the 22k planet fell (I don't even remember it's name… it never amounted to much beyond a drone reloading penal colony), followed by Wrath of Athena. Another level 50 port buster died. This left only Asgard, but a bit of luck smiled on Fury. What I failed to mention is that Malhavoc had been actively scanning the system the whole time, darting around trying to find stragglers that weren't with the remainder of the enemy fleet (even though some of us told him not to). It so happened that one of the Renegade raiders experienced some lag and ended up stuck in space without any cover. Malhavoc discovered him, initially thinking it was a trap (lack of scouts to determine the nature of it), but after the ship remained idle for a minute he dispatched it.
And so a dam was erected to stem the tide of the flood. After that, the Renegade raid was essentially over, although Renegade and STS hunters stuck around for quite some time. All told we lost some 20-30 ships and SG lost one, most of which were docked on the three planets that were raided. Thus Fury was drawn into the global conflict (which it had already been involved with to some extent… but not to this degree) pitting SG and company against Kaos/STS/Rens.
Shortly thereafter, DragonHeart disbanded DA. He left for STS, while Geno and company went to Ren/EV.

how to use -
this one is quite simple. fire, repair, fire, repair, and so on. estimated 5 rounds to kill the port, but there is a chance you could get unlucky and go on to a sixth round for one or two mortars. reload after every other raid.
alternatively if you want to avoid the align shifting issue, dropping the overflow shields for a graviton disruption field and adding another two shield batteries allows you to switch the 5 PHP's for cyclone flaks instead of TPPW.
required level - 45+ tested, 40+ theoretically could work.

how to use -
if you were wondering how we got a 4-second speed raid on a level 5 port solo record, this is the design, albeit tweaked (seda had a level 280 ship instead of this)
this one has got to be the most simple raider design to use ever. all you need to do is hit attack 5-6 times, and the port dies. no repairing necessary. there is a possibility that you could take too much damage at one point during the raid, and be forced to retreat, repair, and come back to finish, but the chance is very slim. reload every other raid, and with the low speed this is kinda painful if you plan on raiding very often.
required level - 50+ tested, 55 ideal

pros - most amount of raids
cons - hardest to use
this one is the hardest. the most efficient way to use it is to attack 3 times, repair after each attack, then switch weapon mode and attack with primaries first instead of secondaries. this adds time to the raid though. if you fire on primaries first, theres a chance that your last raid could be botched because of not enough mortars, but with 12 TPPW's, that shouldnt be too much of a problem. low speed, but you get three raids per round of mortars instead of only two.
alternatively, you could choose to fire on primaries first for the whole raid. the final raid however, takes an extra turn to finish off - port will die in 2-3 guns.
required level - 50+ tested, 45+ should work

This one is a bit more complexe. Fire twice, repair, and continue. somewhat level biased though. highly recommended level 50+, although it MAY work at level 45.

difference for this one is that you only fire once before repairing. takes you longer to raid, but theres no risk if raiding at level 50.
